Enjoy Fun in the Sun at Nearby Six Flags America

Six Flags

Now that the weather is warm, it’s time to get out and explore – and maybe to do a little bit of thrill seeking, too. If you’re ready to shake of the winter blues with a speeding roller coaster or a high-flying waterpark ride, look no further than one of the country’s favorite amusement parks.

Six Flags America is located in Upper Marlboro, MD, just 17 miles from your National Harbor apartment. This blog post will give you everything you need for an impromptu day of thrills and fun at this popular amusement park.

When to Go

Six Flags America opens daily at 10:30 a.m., and the closing time varies from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m., depending on the day. Check the official park hours here for exact times.

Six Flags offers a number of events to make your day even more special, so you may want to plan to go during a specific event. For example, the park will celebrate Cinco de Mayo on Sunday, May 3 with a fiesta of games, special offers, giveaways and more, including an Exclusive Ride Time Event. Be sure to check the events page on Six Flags’ website to plan your visit for events you’d like to attend.

What to Ride

Six Flags America offers a huge variety of rides, ranging from family-friendly to thrill-seeking. Rides the entire family can enjoy include Capital Railways, a real train that weaves through the park and the Flying Carousel, a classic, high-flying swing ride.

But if you’re looking for something to get the heart going, Six Flags is known for its twisting, speeding roller coasters. The Apocalypse is a record-setting stand-up coaster that features everything from explosions to zombies. And the new Ragin’ Cajun is a gravity-bending spinner/coaster hybrid that’s sure to become a park favorite.

If you’re seeking a cool-down, as well as a good time, Six Flags offers numerous wet rides in its Water Park. The Halfpipe is a tube-sliding ride that’s built for speed, height and airtime. If you’re more daring, the Bonzai Pipelines are a high-altitude series of pipes for wet and wild sliding to the extreme. Of course, the Water Park also offers tamer experiences, like Crocodile Cal’s Caribbean Beach House, where kids can play in a watery tree house structure surrounded by a shallow pool.

What to Bring

Before you go, be sure to purchase your tickets online for faster park entry. Tickets range in price from free for children 2-years-old and under to $59.99, but for a limited time, adults can purchase a ticket for $39.99. You’ll be able to purchase food and drinks inside the park, but you might want to pack a bag of other helpful gear.

Sunscreen is a must, and sunglasses and hats can help protect you while you’re having fun in the sun. If you plan on visiting the Water Park, bring your swimsuit and a towel, but you do not need to pack a life vest for kids – they’re available for free inside the park.

One final item you’ll want to bring is a camera or your smartphone, to capture all the great times you’ll be having during your day at Six Flags America!
