Halloween at National Harbor

Halloween at National Harbor

Fall is here. And with the cooler temps and changing leaves also comes Halloween. It’s the celebration that officially kicks off the holiday season to come, but is way more laid back than Thanksgiving or the other present-exchanging ones. Translation? This is the best one. And even if you’re way past the days of dressing up for the holiday, you can still get down. Maybe your kids trick or treat or maybe you’re just looking for a reason to celebrate fall. If you’re living at The Esplanade in National Harbor, you’ll get plenty of chances to enjoy Halloween. Discover just how much fun you can actually have at these fun events that are perfect for just about everyone.

Families will love…

The National Harbor is having its very own festive celebration. No need to venture out to enjoy this holiday. On October 26 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., enjoy trick or treating for kids 12 and under at select restaurants and stores. Catch the family film Hocus Pocus at 11:15 a.m. on the Plaza. Children will get a free ride on the large and festive ferris wheel that overlooks the water, the Capital Wheel. And lastly, enjoy a farmer’s market complete with a pumpkin patch so you can find some home décor.

If you don’t mind traveling and spending time outside, Potomac Overlook Regional Park in nearby Arlington, Virginia is hosting a festive Halloween celebration on October 25 from 6:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. And it’s a great deal too. For $10 per person, you’ll enjoy a Halloween party, live music, food, games, arts and crafts, storytelling, and guided hikes through the woods. People of all ages are welcome. Advanced reservations and payment are required.

Animal-loving kids will enjoy celebrating Halloween at the National Zoo. “Boo at Zoo” is sure to offer friendly and frightening laughs for all. From October 24 to 26 from 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., youngsters can check out the “spooky” critters like bats, spiders and owls. Costumed volunteers will be handing out candy throughout the park to help ease the frightening.

Adults will love…

Harrington’s Pub & Kitchen in National Harbor is serving up a Halloween celebration on Oct. 31. Grab a few pals and head here for live music, food and drinks. It will be like trick or treating for adults, only more fun.

Costume-contest Enthusiasts will love…

Although Charming Charlie’s is not exclusively a costume shop, the apparel and accessories spot stocks some adorable Halloween wear that even the most fashionable resident will love. Costumers can shop for spider rings, beauty masks, skeleton earrings and even a feather flapper hair clip to go with a sparkly dress.

Candy-loving kids and parents will enjoy…

When it comes time to stock up on candy, the options are plentiful. Head to a big box retailer like CVS or you could even try out a stand-alone Peep’s store. Kids are sure to like this festive spot featuring everyone’s favorite marshmallow treat. The store is even hosting a promotion where they’ll take 20 percent off your order if you post and hashtag a #SweetSelfie in store. Be sure to get there soon to take advantage of this special offer.
