Hosting Guests

Hosting During the Holidays

As a resident of The Esplanade, you love your apartment. It’s cozy and luxurious. You appreciate all the amenities, and you know that the National Harbor is the perfect city for you. But that can change when you’ve got company coming. Suddenly, you might have to make your home guest-ready. This can especially be stressful during the frenzy of the holidays. But before you get too stressed and forget about holiday cheer altogether, follow these tips to make hosting guests as easy as digging into that extra slice of pumpkin pie.

Give them Space

To make your guests feel at home, give them some closet space. It doesn’t have to be a ton, but just enough to store their clothes. Likewise, clear space on the bathroom counter to make way for their toiletries. This Old House even recommends buying an ottoman with storage space if you don’t have a lot to spare.

Create a Welcome Basket

To really make your guests feel at home, consider a welcome gift. It can as elaborate or as simple as you’d like. Maybe a few baked goods or local candies (we’d suggest chocolates from SPAGnVOLA) that they’ll love. To really go all out, consider food and toiletries like mini-soaps, toothpaste, hairbrushes or anything else your guest might like. Slippers and bathrobes also can help. Bed, Bath & Beyond in nearby Waldorf, Maryland, is a great place to buy those items.

What to See

If your guest has never been to the area before, a trip to downtown D.C. is a must. The National Mall is just as gorgeous as it looks in the pictures. Consider hitting up a few free museums too.

If you’d rather not venture into the city, Mount Vernon in nearby Alexandria, Virginia, is another great tourist spot. George Washington’s home is beautiful too. Your guests will love the view behind Washington’s former dwelling—with the colored leaves and view of the water—that’s Christmas-card ready.

But if you’re searching for events and activities right outside your door, National Harbor offers plenty to see and do too. Consider taking a spin on the massive Ferris wheel, the Capital Wheel. Listen to carolers. Catch a flick outdoors. Or bring out the kid in your and take a spin on the sleigh with Santa. Check out this list for the specifics, and enjoy the holidays in your neighborhood with a friend.

Where to Eat

You won’t have to travel too far to get a great bite to eat either. National Harbor is packed with great spots. Rosa Mexicano dishes out fine Mexican fare. If your guest doesn’t like spicy food, consider Fiorella Italian Kitchen in Oxon Hill. Since just about everyone loves Italian food, he or she will probably enjoy baked ziti, calzones or even pizza topped with fried calamari.

When you guests are over, they’ll no doubt fall in love with The Esplanade. If you’re searching for a dream apartment in National Harbor, Maryland, get in touch with Bozzuto today to discuss leasing at this stellar property.
