Take a Springtime Day Trip to Annapolis, MD
Now that Spring has finally sprung, it’s the perfect time to explore all the fun attractions around you. One of the best things about living at The Esplanade is its proximity to a number of cities, historic sites, museums and more.
When the next warm weekend hits, you’ll be ready to hit the road for a fun day trip so you can explore, shop, and dine. Just a short drive from National Harbor, Annapolis, MD has a lot to offer. Here is your guide to the perfect Annapolis day trip:
Take a guided tour
Explore the charm of the city on a small group tour. Let a guide dressed in Colonial attire show you the city by foot with Annapolis Tours by Watermark. The company’s tour selection includes a war tour and a ghost tour, along with a traditional history tour.
Capital City Colonials offers a wide selection of themed tours including Colonial Gossip and Women of Annapolis. If you’re not big on tours, and you just want to basics, they have an Annapolis-in-an-Hour tour, too.
Tour the U.S. Naval Academy
The Naval Academy is home to a 4,000-strong brigade of midshipmen training for the U.S. Navy and Marine Corps. You can catch a guided tour of the Academy at the Armel-Leftwich Visitor Center. The Naval Academy Museum features thousands of artifacts, as well as the famous Gallery of Ships.
Stroll along the Annapolis City Dock
Annapolis offers stunning views of the Chesapeake Bay, dotted with an impressive array of boats. Known to local boaters as “Ego Alley,” onlookers can watch a steady parade of yachts and other boats in the evenings and on weekends.
Enjoy the freshest seafood around
Mike’s Restaurant and Crab House is a favorite of locals and visitors alike, and its location on the banks of South River is a picture-perfect spot. Cantler’s Riverside Inn is known for steamed hard-shell crabs. Buddy’s Crabs & Ribs offers an all-you-can-eat seafood buffet and is located right across the street from the City Dock.
Annapolis has quite a few art galleries and upscale boutiques, not just gift shops. For ladies who love Lilly, The Pink Crab is an official Lilly Pulitzer signature boutique. Brown Eyed Girl offers a mix of bohemian, romantic, and modern clothing and accessories. Re-Sails has an interesting mix of home décor and apparel made from recycled sails. And, if you want to browse the galleries, The Annapolis Collection Gallery and McBride Gallery are just a couple to check out.
